Basic Info
Name:A Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons
Location:Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
Bio
This is my happening and it freaks me out!

Guess what? My parents loved me too much to actually name me gwangi. They also didn't name me perfusionman, or Onychomys, or Conuropsis, or any of the other names I go by when I'm on the internet. I'm kind of upset about Onychomys, actually. That'd be a pretty awesome name. Instead, I got a fairly boring sort of name, as the yahoo ID listed above demonstrates.

This journal is entirely public, and will remain that way. I have nothing to hide.

If you're reading this because I randomly commented in your journal and you have no idea who I am, don't worry. I don't have any idea who you are, either. I have a bad habit of snooping around in peoples' journals. There's about a 98% chance that I've already forgotten any comment that I've made and you'll never see me again.

A brief bio:
1) I'm from Montana, basically. Here are some pics of the land that I love. Those of you who are paying very close attention will notice that none of those pics are actually of Montana. It's northern Wyoming instead, but that's close enough for government work.
2) Degree in "Ecology and Evolutionary Biology" from the University of Arizona, although I started out at Wyoming, and that's where my heart will always reside. Go Pokes! Expect plenty of posts with biogeeky references contained within. And the more-than-occasional UWyo fanboyism.
3) Then a bunch of stuff happened.
4) Which resulted in a move to Minneapolis in August of 2005, mostly because there are no biology jobs in Montana. Now I do HIV testing for the Army. That's basically just to pay the bills until I get around to going back to school.
5) If you google "gwangi", you get this guy. That isn't me. Sorry to disappoint. Then you get these guys. None of them is me, either. Again, sorry. In fact, the only place I go by 'gwangi' is here on LJ. If you see somebody by this name somewhere else, don't go thinking you know him. 'Cause it ain't me.

Everything else you could possibly know about me can be garnered from my interests below, I reckon. That's why they're there. If you want to buy me some stuff (come on, who doesn't?), here's my amazon wish list. It's pretty much just geek books and chick punk CDs.

And now, a smidgen of Emily Dickenson:
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Quoth Zane Grey:
The pale afterglow in the west darkened with the merging of twilight into night. The sage now spread out black and gloomy. One dim star glimmered in the southwest sky. The sound of trotting horses had ceased, and there was silence broken only by a faint, dry pattering of cottonwood leaves in the soft night wind.

Finally, some Charles Darwin:
As buds give rise by growth to fresh buds, and these, if vigorous, branch out and overtop on all sides many a feebler branch, so by generation I believe it has been with the great Tree of Life, which fills with its dead and broken branches the crust of the earth, and covers the surface with its ever branching and beautiful ramifications.
